4 Exercises for Halloween Candy Guilt

Burn off some of the those bite-sized Halloween snacks with these 4 effective exercises.

 

It’s that time of the year again - kids are running around, dressed up as cops & robbers, cowboys & Indians, you name it! Halloween is a fun time for people of all ages, and our love for Halloween candy never dies out. Unfortunately, as we get older it’s hard to burn off all those calories from the oh-so-delicious sweets that come with the season. And since most of us don’t have the energy of our younger counterparts, here are 4 great workouts that help burn some of those not-so-fun-sized calories.

 

1. Running

Running is a great way to get your heart pumping and get those calories burning away! You can go for a quick run in the morning, on a lunch break, or even in the afternoon. Run for about 30 minutes a day for as long as you can, and don’t worry about distance. All you need to do it bring along some awesome sneakers, your favorite playlist, hit the pavement and GO!

 

2. Jump Rope

Before there were iPhones, Androids, tablets, and technology, kids would grab the nearest friends and go run around on the playground. One of those highly frequents playground activities was Jump Rope (remember that one?). Like running, jump rope is a great way to condition your cardio. And best of all, it’s easy and known to burn even more calories than traditional running. All you need is 10 – 15 minutes, a rope, and some calories to burn. If you’re not comfortable jumping rope in public or forgot how (we won’t tell), then don’t worry – you can always do it in the privacy of your own home. My suggestion: set a goal each day. For example, on Monday I want to aim for 100 jumps, Tuesday 150, etc. Start where you’re most comfortable. You should never push yourself beyond your capabilities – start off modest, then work your way up.

 

3. Squats

 Listening to music everyday, we hear the word ‘booty’ all over the place! So, if you’re interested in working out those glutes, squats are the perfect workout for you. Traditionally, you would like to use some extra weight when squatting, but air or body squats also work well.       

First off, to properly squat you want to make sure your legs are shoulder width apart. If you need to, you can stand your legs a little wider to get more balance. When you are in a comfortable position, act as if you’re about to sit down, bend your needs, keep your back neutral, and extend your hips backward. Put your hands out in front of you to get more maintain more balance. Then, move back into your original stance and repeat! Make sure to breathe in as your bend downward, then out as you move back into original stance. Attempt as many squats as you can the first time (without overdoing it) and set goals for the rest of the week. This full body workout is a great way to tone up your body and burn off unwanted calories.

 

4. Planks

Last but not least - the plank. Planks are a very effective method of not only burning calories, but also working on a tighter core. Best part is, they’re simple! All you have to do is get your body on the floor facing down and assume push up position.  Keep your elbows bent at 90 degrees (an “L” shape) and both forearms facing on the floor. Keep your body as straight as possible and hold it for as long as you can. Maintain a progress chart and take notes of how long you can hold the plank position. This workout helps burn off tummy fat and define those awesome abs.

 

So, there you have it, four simple workouts to burn off some of those tiny Halloween treats. Feel free to combine a couple, or even all of these workouts (if you dare) for a maximum burn. These basic techniques are a fun and effective way for anyone to start or continue on with their fitness goals.
